We are also CMMTQ members — a mandatory membership for every plumbing and heating contractor in Québec rather than a distinction: what matters is that it is in good standing.
What counts as a genuine plumbing emergency?
As a rule: anything putting water where it should not be that you cannot stop. A leak you cannot contain, a sewer backup, a burst pipe, damage reaching electrical equipment. By contrast, a dripping tap or a running toilet can wait until the next day — those are repairs to schedule, not emergencies.
How much does a plumbing call cost?
Cost depends on the type of work, the time required, the parts needed and when you call. Ask about the applicable rate when you call — that is the moment to clarify what applies to your situation. Be wary of fixed prices quoted without seeing the problem: they almost always change once someone is on site.
Can I do my own plumbing work?
According to the CMMTQ, an individual may carry out plumbing and heating work in a home used exclusively to house themselves or their family, with no commercial use — gas and oil work excluded. As soon as the work is given to someone else, that person must be a licensed contractor. Beyond the rule, non-compliant work can complicate an insurance claim if something goes wrong.
